Mather Field Road Rehabilitation earns APWA Project of the Year Award

BEN|EN is excited to announce we have won a Project of the Year Award by the APWA Sacramento Chapter for the Mather Field Road Rehabilitation project under the Transportation category! This project is owned by City of Rancho Cordova. Our Project Manager Lizette Zavala managed the design and other civil engineering services of this project.

Here is a brief description of the project:

BEN|EN provided engineering support services to City staff for the rehabilitation. The project rehabilitated the pavement on Mather Field Road—a four-lane roadway—from Folsom Boulevard to International Drive. The total length of the project was approximately one mile and included aerial imagery with Lidar survey, topographic mapping, utility coordination, re-design of the existing median, landscape and irrigation design, pavement evaluation, and resurfacing recommendations. By using the point cloud generated by Lidar for survey, areas of distress on the pavement were identified by manipulating the colors of slopes in AutoCAD.

Traffic signal design improvements were performed by our traffic division at six intersections, including replacement of the existing damaged detector loops with a video/radar detection system, upgrading existing pedestrian pushbuttons to Accessible Pedestrian Signals, and upgrading existing 8-inch signal heads to 12-inch signal heads.

Thank you to our hardworking staff for bringing this project to our community, along with Geocon, Unico Engineering, GPA Consulting, and Helix Environmental Planning!
