Bennett Engineering Services is pleased to announce the selection of the City of Elk Grove’s Kammerer Road (Bruceville Road to Lent Ranch Parkway) Reconstruction project as an APWA Sacramento Chapter “Project of the Year” in the transportation category.
The project reconstructed and improved the safety of more than two miles of Kammerer Road. This section of roadway is part of the Capital SouthEast Connector Joint Powers Authority’s 34-mile expressway project. Kammerer Road is the boundary between the City and the County of Sacramento, half of the roadway reconstruction occurred within the County. The City led the final design, right-of-way acquisitions, and construction and actively coordinated with both the JPA and the County throughout all phases of the Project.
Prior to construction, Kammerer Road was an undivided, narrow, two-lane, agricultural roadway that lacked paved shoulders in many locations and had insufficient to non-existent roadside ditches that would cause localized flooding that routinely closed the roadway.
Current and planned development fronting this section of Kammerer Road made it necessary to upgrade the facility for safety, provide improved bicycle mobility, and accommodate planned growth. This was accomplished by constructing a first phase that can be easily widened in the future.
