Trail Extension Connects Regional Bicycle Trail to Surrounding Neighborhoods

Bennett Engineering Services provided civil design and construction documents for a new Class I multi-use trail segment for the City of Rancho Cordova. The new trail connects an existing trail along the Folsom South Canal to Douglas Road.

Since the proposed alignment is within the Bureau of Reclamation property, early communication was needed to identify their concerns and include their input in the design.

The site has a significant drop off with a steep slope from the existing trail to Douglas Road. To ensure ADA compliance for the new segment, a detailed connection to the existing trail was provided, which included a 12-foot-wide, ADA-compliant alignment with the remaining portion blending to the sloped portion of the existing trail. Warning and directional signage and striping were provided for additional safety.

This project was provided under an on-call services agreement with the City of Rancho Cordova.
