We are proud of our engineers Marisa Ringlstetter, PE, and Ali Holladay, EIT, who presented at the 8th Grade Girls STEM Conference conference for students from Yuba and Sutter Counties on March 28, 2022.
“I remember when I was in 8th grade being introduced to STEM and not knowing what it was,” said Holladay. “Fast forward to now and I am a first-generation college graduate with an engineering degree. I attribute my career path to STEM exposure at an early age, so it was very rewarding to get to present to 8th-grade girls about all that STEM fields have to offer.”
This annual conference is organized by the American Association of University Women to teach young girls about the career opportunities open to them in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.
“We presented to more than 80 girls each about civil engineering and the exciting things you can accomplish with it,” said Ringlstetter. “We hope we were able to make a difference in these girls’ lives and encourage some to become civil engineers themselves.”
This year, approximately 500 girls attended the conference and heard from women in a variety of STEM fields, including civil engineering, thanks to Ali and Marisa!
